WELCOME to the first unit of your Preliminary HSC Ancient History course. In this unit you will focus on issues of historical inquiry, including;
* methods used by historians and archaeologists to investigate the past.
* the nature and role of sources and evidence in reconstructing the past.
* ethical issues related to the discipline.
* the role of science in unlocking the past.
We will take a look at various historical examples of the issues raised in this unit, with particular focus on the excavation of the Kasta Hill tomb at Amphipolis, in the present day region of Macedonia, Greece.
The course is comprised of a mixture of online content and class reading. It would be in your best interest to make sure that you complete all assigned reading and activities in order to best prepare yourself for your HSC studies.
